This April, Manchester will be illuminated like never before as world-renowned light artist Rupert Newman unveils his first-ever Manchester exhibition,

Spaces Up-Above.

Newman’s dazzling, interactive installations have captured audiences in Hong Kong, Venice and Abu Dhabi. Now, he’s bringing his visionary light artistry to Manchester – blending cutting-edge technology with breathtaking digital art to create an immersive, dreamlike experience.

Spaces Up-Above will bathe visitors in a mesmerising display of vivid hues waves, tropical fish & coral-inspired patterns. Bold colours, hypnotic movement and dynamic visuals will transform the 1000 square metre LED screens into an evolving dreamscape, delivering awe-inspiring moments at every glance.

Running throughout April and beyond, the exhibition offers the perfect day out for families, art lovers and experience-seekers alike.

Kristian Brennan, Marketing Manager at Printworks, said: “This is art on a whole new scale. Rupert’s work is world-renowned, and now, for the first time, we’re giving our visitors the chance to experience it here in Manchester – on Europe’s largest digital ceiling. It’s free, immersive, and unlike anything seen before in the Northwest.”

This isn’t just an exhibition – it’s a celebration of creativity, movement & imagination. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning fan, every glance will reveal something new.

“The work is a celebration of colour, rhythm and the arrival of Spring. It is designed to transform the screens into an uplifting, dynamic living canvas.

The interplay of organic and geometric elements reflects my pursuit of visual harmony — where natural flow meets intentional structure. Fish, butterfly’s and birds bring the canvas to life and add a playful element of fun and joy.

Each design begins by hand in sketchbooks with watercolour paint. The paintings are then scanned in to the computer, turned into repeat pattern to fill the huge digital screens, and bought life with animation. This way the intuitive flow of the hand, and my artistic expression shines through.

I aim to engage everyone at Printworks — from the curious passer by to the devoted art enthusiast — in a visual experience that weaves together imagination and the elegance of nature, with the boundless possibilities of digital art” Rupert Newman
